Economics Speaker Series: Accounting for Japan’s “Lost Score”

November 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science invites you to attend a talk by Dr. Caroline M. Betts.

After 1990, Japan—a post-war “growth miracle” country—experienced a substantial and persistent slowing of GDP per working age person and aggregate TFP growth and sustained deindustrialization (declining hours share of manufacturing).

Dr. Betts will discuss a three-sector neoclassical growth model featuring four mechanisms that could contribute to Japan’s post-1990 slowdown.
