Making Learning Visible through Concept Mapping

April 25, 2023 at 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

Concept mapping, a type of graphic representation of ideas, has been shown to facilitate meaningful learning across numerous disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching contexts. In particular, concepts maps can help students develop critical thinking, integrate theory with practice, serve as tool for assessment and self-reflection, promote collaborative learning, and provide opportunities for creative and holistic thinking.

This workshop will introduce concept mapping as both an instructional tool and learning strategy that can be used as individual assignments as well as group projects for a wide range of purposes from outlining written assignments to reviewing for exams. Examples of student-generated concept maps will be shared to illustrate benefits and challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to use one of the online tools available for creating concept maps and explore how they could incorporate this technique into their own courses.
