UBC Constitutional Lecture 2024

Join Justice Bradley Miller of the Court of Appeal for Ontario as he delivers the UBC Constitutional Lecture 2024.

The title of Justice Miller’s lecture is Virtuous and Vicious Constitutional Interpretation. Justice Miller will discuss different approaches to constitutional interpretation and how Canadian courts should understand their role vis-à-vis Parliament and the executive.

Justice Miller was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 2015. Prior to his appointment, he enjoyed a high profile career as a constitutional scholar and lawyer, and is particularly well known for his scholarship on theories of originalism and proportionality analysis.

He was a Professor of Law at Western University’s Faculty of Law from 2005 to 2015. He received an LLM (magna cum laude) from the University of Edinburgh in 1994 and a DPhil in law from the University of Oxford in 2004.

Justice Miller is also a proud UBC alumnus, graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws in 1992.
