Black History Month Scavenger Hunt
February 1 to 28

The African Caribbean Student Club is hosting a month-long scavenger hunt that invites students to explore campus while engaging with Black history, culture and community. Weekly clues tied to locations lead participants to hidden markers and prizes, encouraging ongoing participation, connection and fun throughout the month.

Black Student Association Haircare Workshop
February 2, 4 and 6 | 7 to 9 pm | EME 1153

This workshop directly addresses the systemic marginalization of Black students by countering racial stereotypes that negatively characterize afro-textured hair, filling a critical gap in accessible, culturally relevant education necessary for self-care and identity affirmation.

Movie Night with open discussion: Black Panther
February 3 | 6 to 9:30 pm | First and Second Year Collegium, UNC 336

The African Caribbean Student Club and the English Course Union will be screening Black Panther. Afterwards, there will be an open discussion about the themes within the film.

Echoes of Heritage: Échos du patrimoine
February 5 | 1 to 3 pm | EME lower foyer

The African Caribbean Student Club and Espaces Francophones are hosting a celebration to honour the diversity of languages and cultures that unite us and connect us to our pasts. Participants will receive a paper passport to fill in at each of the language tables, and can enter to win some plurilingual and multicultural-related prizes.

This vibrant event is an opportunity to celebrate traditions, share stories, and foster a deeper understanding of one another.

African Caribbean Student Club Board Games and Movie Night
February 5 | 6:30 to 9 pm | Global Collegium, EME 0252

The African Caribbean Student Club and Graduate Student Association are hosting a relaxed night for students with a movie and board games. The movie being played will be determined beforehand by an Instagram poll. Snacks and drinks will be provided during the event. Follow @acscsuo for more information.

UBCO Heat Black History Month Celebration
February 6 | 5:30 to 9:30 pm | UBCO Gym

The UBCO Heat will host their third annual Black History Month Celebration when their women’s and men’s basketball teams host the UFV Cascades. The evening will feature performances from the Fusion Dance Club at halftime of both games, music from Black artists throughout both games and the teams wearing Black History Month t-shirts during warmup.

The African Caribbean Student Club and Residence Life are hosting a Super Bowl watch party in the Nechako Gathering Room. There will be food and refreshments.

Family Feud Black History Month edition
February 13 | 7 to 9 pm | ASC 140

Participants will form teams and compete to answer survey-based questions, featuring Black history and culture, with prizes awarded to winners.

Black Student Association Exhibition: Identity

The Black Student Association is hosting a dynamic and immersive platform to celebrate the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Black student community. Our primary objective is to amplify the voices, perspectives and artistic expressions of Black students.

Community Market featuring Black-owned Businesses
February 24 | 10:30 am to 2:30 pm | EME foyer

Campus Wellness and Education’s Community Market will be themed for Black History Month. Black student vendors will take part alongside the regular market vendors.

Community Meal
February 24 | 11 am until supplies last | EME foyer

The African Caribbean Student Club (in collaboration with Picnic) will be making traditional African and Caribbean dishes and serving them during the community market.

Black and Queer Trivia Night
February 25 | 4:30 to 6:30 pm | Black Student Space, COM 121

Trivia night celebrating Black queer history, culture and impact. Participants will test their knowledge on trailblazing figures, activism, art and community while learning about the important contributions of Black queer individuals in an interactive and fun way.

Black Reading Group Discussion

The Sankofa Book Club will be discussing issues pertaining to the Black experience in Canada as presented in Suzette Mayr’s The Sleeping Car Porter.

“Tiny Desk” Showcase

The African Caribbean Student Club is hosting a musical talent performance featuring judges and passionate musicians presenting their art in an intimate, immersive environment.

Black History Month: Ski Trip
February 28 | 2 to 8 pm | SilverStar Mountain Resort

The African Caribbean Student Club is collaborating with other outdoor-focused student clubs to organize a trip to SilverStar. This ski trip will offer significantly reduced rates to students, and 10 per cent of the proceeds will be donated to This Space Belongs to You.

Afrochella Community Celebration
February 28 | 3 to 6 pm | UNC Ballroom

Join the Fusion Dance Club to celebrate Black History Month with a community gathering. There will be dance performances, food and a presentation on the history of dance.

African Caribbean Student Club Legacy Gala
March 14 | Laurel Packinghouse

This annual formal celebration is hosted by the African Caribbean Student Club following the conclusion of Black History Month. The gala honours and celebrates Black excellence, instilling cultural pride among African and Caribbean students.

By attending African Caribbean Student Club events throughout Black History Month, you will have the opportunity to win a self-care basket. The winners will be selected through a live draw during the gala.
