Economics Speaker Series: Look Ma, I’m Okay! Intergenerational Transfers of Health

November 4, 2022 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

The Department of Economics, Philosophy and Political Science invites you to attend a talk by Dr. Umut Oguzoglu.

Using unique longitudinal health records from Manitoba, Canada, he will discuss how they investigate the extent to which mother’s health before pregnancy affect child health from birth to youth. They build up their analyses by progressively increasing health controls during time periods between the event and outcome. The majority of their analyses extend back to mother’s health 5 years before pregnancy, and for a smaller sample back to mothers’ own birth to capture prenatal factors that are evident.

Dr. Oguzoglu will share his findings that suggest prenatal health has distinct impact on child health over and above demographic and environmental factors.
